Printing with the sun – the magic of cyanotype
The Warsaw Gasworks Museum invites children to participate in unique educational and artistic workshops, during which participants will learn about cyanotype – one of the oldest photographic techniques, using sunlight to create unique blue prints.
The classes, lasting about 1.5 hours, will allow young participants to discover the basics of alternative photography, experiment with light and shadow, and create their own works using natural and technical materials (such as leaves, screws, lace, and other small objects). The process of creating an image, from exposure to washing in water, will not only be a fascinating artistic experience for children, but also an opportunity to learn through play.
During the workshops, children will learn, among other things:
- what cyanotype is and how to create images without using a camera,
- how light and shadow work in the context of photography,
- how energy and lighting sources have developed over the years – from gas lanterns to modern technologies,
- how to plan and create their own artistic composition.
The classes will begin with a short introduction to old photographic techniques and a presentation of finished works. After the workshop, children will have the opportunity to participate in additional attractions: the “Photographic Detective” game and a creative task of framing the world using cardboard frames. At the end, there will be a group photo and a summary of the meeting.
