From Bonfire to Light Bulb: The History of Light

Have you ever wondered how people coped with darkness before electricity was invented? In this workshop, we will embark on a fascinating journey through the history of light – from the first bonfires, through oil, kerosene and gas lamps, to modern lighting technologies. During the class, participants will create their own lanterns inspired by old inventions.

During the class, young explorers will learn:

  • how a gasworks operated,
  • how lighting gas was produced,
  • how the appearance of Warsaw changed when street lamps were first lit.

This is a unique opportunity to understand how important light was in the daily lives of the city's inhabitants over a hundred years ago.
