From the heart of the gasworks - Exhibit of the Month: A gas compressor - or, in the big picture, a huge bicycle pump that, instead of tubes, pumped... the whole city.

These are not mere technical devices. They are testimonies of the era in which Warsaw was building its modernity. Each exhibit is unique - not only because of its construction or use, but above all because it was part of the urban organism. They formed the invisible infrastructure that allowed the capital to work, to develop.
The presented buildings allow us to look at the history of Warsaw from the perspective of the development of the gas and energy infrastructure, which for decades provided residents with heat, light and living comfort. Although today they seem like relics of a bygone era, in reality they are carriers of memory - they tell the story of the efforts of engineers, technicians and workers whose work remained in the shadows, although it was of great importance for the functioning of the entire city.
To begin this series, we present a device that for decades was one of the pillars of Warsaw's gas network - the gas compressor. Without it, it is difficult to imagine the work of the gasworks and the entire city's transmission network. It symbolises the dynamism, reliability and power of a technology that changed the face of the capital.
