Steam? Not this time! Ironing on gas
When housewives began to abandon heavy cast-iron coal irons and switch to modern gas models, everyday chores became much more convenient.
The double gas iron with a cast iron burner, manufactured in 1944, was the pinnacle of technical ingenuity at the time. Designed for domestic use, it met high standards of safety and ergonomics.
The device was mounted on a special base with a burner connected to the gas system. When the iron was lifted, an automatic mechanism immediately cut off the gas supply – this solution significantly increased work safety and made the equipment very popular.
Today, this unique iron can be admired as a new exhibit at the Warsaw Gasworks Museum. We invite you to see it, touch it (note – it is really heavy!) and learn the fascinating story of how gas changed everyday life in Polish homes.
