European Heritage Days 2025 at the Warsaw Gasworks Museum – the history of industrial Warsaw at your fingertips
The former gasworks, which supplied Warsaw with gas and lighting for decades, is now one of the best-preserved examples of industrial architecture from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Its monumental buildings and unique equipment bear witness to the dynamic technological changes that accompanied the development of the capital.
On Saturday, 13 September 2025, as part of the 33rd edition of European Heritage Days, the museum has prepared a special programme for both adults and children. Participation in all activities is free of charge.
The main attraction of the event will be guided walks, during which visitors will discover the secrets of the history of the former gasworks complex. Participants will enter the original machine room – the heart of the former technological process. The preserved equipment and infrastructure elements will allow them to see how functionality was intertwined with the aesthetics of functional architecture, creating a space that was both practical and extremely impressive.
With the youngest visitors in mind, workshops entitled “Papierowa Gazownia – architektura dla najmłodszych” (Paper Gasworks – architecture for children) will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is a creative journey into the world of design, in which children will learn about the history of industrial Warsaw while playing with form and paper.
Event schedule:
- 10:00 – start of the event,
- 11:00–14:00 – workshops for children, “Papierowa Gazownia” (Paper Gasworks),
- 12:00 and 13:30 – guided tours.
European Heritage Days at the Warsaw Gasworks Museum are a unique opportunity to take an unusual look at the history of technology and the industrial past of the capital. It is also a reminder that Warsaw's industrial heritage, although often overlooked, can fascinate and inspire future generations.
